Kiva.org is currently piloting in Uganda and Kenya a solution which allows partners to update the Kiva.org website from their cell-phone.

Kiva.org's partnership with Microsoft Research through the Digital Inclusion project brought to our attention the difficulties our African partners have been overcoming to access the Kiva system. Electrical power in East Africa is very often provided only every other day, and internet connections are at best extremely slow and sporadic. Kiva.org has been honored with an invitation to the second annual Clinton Global Initiative meeting, September 20-22, 2006, in New York City.

Kiva.org is honored to announce the addition of Sam Daley-Harris to Kiva.org's Advisory Board. 

Sam Daley-Harris is President and Founder of RESULTS Educational Fund, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to mass educational strategies to generate the will to end world hunger. We know you've been asking for it: "When are you going to put a search feature on the site?" Well, we finally got it up there and you can now search your heart out!

That's right, our super sleek Businesses page now allows you to easily switch from businesses In Need, Raised, Active or Paid back, by loan amount or by date of posting.

And if that's not enough, click on the "Show More Options" link and you can also search by region, sector or gender! (If I ever have to click through 500 businesses again and select a sector and gender for each one...)

Last week Kiva.org had a record week, receiving over $23,000 in loan funds! That's FIFTY loans that were raised last week and every last cent that you sent us will be sent to your chosen loan receipient. This is our biggest week yet and we are so excited for the massive support our lenders have shown our entrepreneurs by helping them get the loan they need.

If you've never visited PledgeBank before, it's a great place to find others who care about the same issues you do andwant to do something about it.

Currently 16 people have pledged to make a loan through Kiva.org but only if the number of pledgers reaches 35 by August 1.

What a weekend!  

Since our article in BusinessWeek came out on Friday (page 64 if you haven't already seen it) we've received over $10,000 in loans!
