Today Kiva was copied on a Letter to the Editor, sent by a Kiva Lender:

Dear Editor:

I have two investment portfolios. One portfolio holds my investments in American industry. It has declined in value about 25% in the last two months. My other portfolio is with Kiva, a web-based organization that lets me invest directly in microloans to poor people throughout the world. My recent loans to the Cambodian pig farmer, the Azerbaijani clothing seller, the Bolivian cheese maker, the carpenters in Lebanon and Nicaragua, and a dozen others have been repaid in full. The only... Continue Reading >>

We know that many Kiva Lenders have been using Kiva as a teaching tool in the classroom, as a student activity on college campuses, and as a way to give back as guided by their faith. So, last week we added some new pages to share examples of using Kiva in these ways, and to share some materials that others have created and welcome you to use.

Just click on our Do More link and you'll now find Kiva in the Classroom, Kiva on Campus and Kiva and Your Faith. These are places where you can learn about ways in which others are using Kiva as an educational tool or group activity in... Continue Reading >>

Congratulations to all Kiva Fellows Trainees who have made it through the second long day of training for the KF6 Class.

For those who don't know, Kiva Fellows are volunteers who work with Kiva Field Partners for a minimum of 10 weeks (some as long as 1 year!) to contribute towards the partnership in a myriad of ways. Kiva runs training programs for Kiva Fellows four times a year, and we currently have 30 trainees for Class KF6 (obviously KF1 is the first group of Fellows we had) at Kiva HQ in San Francisco.

Guaranteed it will be a long week as there's a lot to learn,... Continue Reading >>

On July 14-15th, the Financial Research Associates in association with The Silicon Valley Microfinance Network (SVMN) proudly hosted the Microfinance West: The Investment Opportunity conference at the Hilton in Fishmerman's Wharf here in San Francisco. The purpose of the conference was to focus on investment opportunities in the microfinance world, as microfinance has quickly expanded beyond the realm of philanthropy to also include an amalgamation of technological innovation and big retail investments. Premal Shah, Kiva's president, attended the conference on behalf of Kiva along with about... Continue Reading >>

Each year Global Agents for Change ride from Vancouver to Mexico, raising funds to build a youth managed microcredit fund, which is loaned to developing world entrepreneurs through Kiva. To date they've raised $53,220... Continue Reading >>
