We received an email today from the Chairman of our Field Partner in Iraq, Al Aman Center, which included a message to share with all Kiva Lenders:
Once again on behalf of Al man and Krikuk people, I would like to express our profound appreciation to those individuals who are lending to make a difference in the life of poor people here in Iraq. These people went through wars and hardship, now they are free and all they want is push and a chance. Together I think we can help to give them this push for them to have normal life and hope.

The first nine loans to Iraqi entrepreneurs have been posted to, and were all funded within hours! The Kiva Field Partner in Iraq has told us how excited they were to see the loans funded so quickly, and how encouraging it is for them to see the public showing such support for these small business owners.

We are incredibly saddened to receive news of the passing of Jedidah Waigwa (pictured above with Matt Flannery, September 2006) on Saturday, April 28th. Jedidah passed away after having a heart attack.

If you you haven't already heard of them, Agents of Change are a Canadian non-profit cycling 2,000 miles from Vancouver, Canada to Tijuana, Mexico to raise money for Mexican entrepreneurs on Currently there are 25 riders participating in the complete ride, with a support group of dozens.
