There’s been so much talk lately about standing with women -- as strong voices in Hollywood, as leaders in business and as the backbone of communities.

But there’s a way you can take action, to send a message and empower women and girls around the world who just want the opportunity to build better lives for themselves.

In every corner of the globe... Continue Reading >>

At Kiva, we believe that access to safe, affordable capital can enable people to work towards their dreams and create better lives for themselves and their communities. This is true for people around the world, from the farmer in India, to the artisan in Guatemala, to the shop owner in Oakland, California.

The vast majority of loans on Kiva (more than 95%) are to people in developing countries, but we also facilitate loans in the United States to borrowers who are financially excluded and socially impactful.

While an entrepreneur in the U.S. may appear to have access... Continue Reading >>

Hold onto your hats, Kiva just trained our 29th fellows class last week. Eighteen fellows came to town (San Francisco!) and joined us at our headquarters for a week of intense training before embarking on their assignments. We might be located in the United States but our fellows come from all over the world and this class was no different with 11 nationalities represented amongst them. This is one of the liveliest times of year in our office and we can’t help but share a few of our favorite behind-the-scenes photos.

One of the many ways our lenders get involved in Kiva is through our community of lending teams. Lending teams are self-organized groups built around common interests, affiliation, or location, where team members rally to support loans and track their collective impact. Each lending team has team captains who go above and beyond to keep members engaged and ensure the team achieves its lending goals. In the next few weeks, we’re spotlighting a few of these team captains for their commitment and leadership.

Each borrower has a different story to tell, and Kiva’s Review and Translation Program (RTP) connects each of them with Kiva volunteers in order to communicate their story to the rest of the world. Volunteers at RTP get to practice their editing and translating skills in 1 of 5 languages (English, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian) while helping to bring Kiva borrowers a step closer to achieving their dreams.

Today, our RTP volunteers edit and translate about 16,500 loans each month, with a total of about 21.4 million words reviewed and translated per year. This month we... Continue Reading >>

In this vast planet of ours, it can be hard to imagine that each and every one of us has our own story to tell.
