Frontline World have been filming a story on Kiva.org over the last month, shooting on two locations, San Francisco and Uganda in East Africa. The story includes the life-cycle of raising funds for a loan - following an entrepreneur in Uganda applying for a loan through a Field Partner right through to the day they receive the funds, as well as meeting some of the original borrowers who have fully repaid their loan through Kiva.org.

We're really excited that Frontline will be... Continue Reading >>

We'll be sure the coffee pot is full over the next few days to help Matt with his jetlag... but in the meantime here are some of the beautiful pics they brought back with them -

Matt and Jessica visited with Janet Alupot, Executive Director of Women's Initiative to Eradicate Poverty in Uganda. They were able to observe Janet's daily activities working with her clients as she accepted loan applications, disbursed loan...

Kiva's President Premal Shah today spoke at the Clinton Global Initiative as a panel member for the working session "Poverty Alleviation: Knowledge is Power: Using Technology to Get Ahead". This working session was webcast live by the Clinton Global Initiative, and Kiva.org is extremely grateful for the exposure we have received through this invitation.

Perhaps the highlight of the conference was Premal's introduction to Bill Clinton, who said he had read all about Kiva.org and loves the work we are doing. We had never thought to include "Bill Clinton knowing...

Kiva.org is currently piloting in Uganda and Kenya a solution which allows partners to update the Kiva.org website from their cell-phone.

Kiva.org's partnership with Microsoft Research through the Digital Inclusion project brought to our attention the difficulties our African partners have been overcoming to access the Kiva system. Electrical power in East Africa is very often provided only every other day, and internet connections are at best extremely slow and sporadic. These conditions make uploading required content (business descriptions and updates) extremely cumbersome.... Continue Reading >>
