October 31st will always be a special date in Kiva.org history.

Just a year after Daily Kos launched Kiva.org to life, Frontline/WORLD launched Kiva.org into the stratosphere. When the documentary Uganda: A Little Goes A Long Way first aired at 6:30pm PST on October 31st 2006 our website promptly crashed as viewers logged on to the website to make their first loan. Over the next four days our engineers worked day and night to get the website back up and able to handle the massive traffic spike. Within 2 months our loan volume had increased from $500k to $2m and it hasn't stopped... Continue Reading >>

As you keep lending, Kiva Field Partners will keep posting new and inspiring entrepreneurs to our website to get their businesses started.

Nicholas Kristof's blog received a large number of comments yesterday in response to his column - thanks to all those who... Continue Reading >>

It's not every day at Kiva.org that we are lucky enough to see video of one of the entrepreneurs listed on our website. Watching a Kiva Entrepreneur smile proudly as they work in their place of business is a rare treat, and something that is emailed around the Kiva office faster than you can say "Click here to download".

So when Nicholas Kristof of The New York Times contacted us about visiting his loan recipients in Kabul, Afghanistan, we were of course eager to hear about Abdul's bakery and what it was like to meet him.

Better yet, Nicholas filmed the experience and... Continue Reading >>
