Over the past two years, my partner and I have lent exactly 250 USD through Kiva. This may not seem like much, given there are those with hundreds - even thousands - of loans to their name, but we live below the poverty line in our own country. I am also an LGBT individual, which is why I am shocked and disappointed that Kiva continue to associate with Opus Dei. Kiva, you have destroyed your relationship with the LGBT community by supporting a hate group. One of the most active and generous Kiva communities is now a shadow of its old self. Your actions are to blame for this, Kiva - and they have not, will not be forgotten. Unlike the majority of the GLBT Community, I will wait out your apology. I believe too strongly in the power of micro finance. But I will not donate a cent to your operating costs until you cut ties with Opus Dei and apologise for your disgraceful treatment of the Kiva GLBT community. You've already lost thousands in donations, because of your actions. It's time to say 'sorry' and move on to bigger and better things. My apologies to Aurora, who is in no way indicted in this situation.

She first realized her passion for nonprofits leveraging social media while working in web communications at MSF. She is incredibly excited to join the content team at Kiva and explore the juncture of technology and international development more thoroughly. She spent nearly a year working in Tanzania with students and was lucky enough to witness the spirit of small-scale entrepreneurship and how it impacts communities firsthand. She holds a BA from Princeton University where she concentrated in politics and was a member of the varsity swimming and diving team. Aurora is a long-suffering, occasionally jubilant, Arsenal fan and copes with being dog-less by volunteering at the SF SPCA.
