Today, Azerbaijan is ranked 14th in number of Kiva loans administered.Kiva has been lending in Azerbaijan since 2006 and the Kiva community has lent over $5.2 million dollars supporting 4,661 loans to low-income entrepreneurs there. Yes, it might be the dead of winter in Mongolia, with temperatures hovering around -30 degrees Fahrenheit, but the loan products here have been turning green. We have received the following update from Consuelo Herreros, Social Responsibility Manager at Kiva Field Partner Fondo Esperanza, following the 8.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Chile on February 27th:“Of our 25 national offices, 60% (15 offices) are operating under completely normal conditions. As many of you have probably heard, a 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck Chile on Saturday morning. The southern part of the country was the area hardest hit by the quake, particularly Concepcion, the country's second largest city.Kiva currently has one field partner in Chile, Fondo Esperanza. We have not yet been able to contact the staff at Fondo Esperanza. Many of the telecommunication systems in Chile appear to be struggling, so it has been difficult to obtain information.
