To Catch a Dollar: Coming to a living room near you?
To Catch a Dollar: Muhammad Yunus Banks on America” is an inspiring documentary that chronicles the introduction of microfinance into the U.S. economy.



Muhammad Yunus, known as the "father of microcredit," received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for his work with microfinance in the developing world -- creating economic and social development from the bottom up. In an attempt to break the cycle of poverty in disadvantaged U.S. communities, Yunus brought microfinance to the United States with Grameen America in 2008. Directed by Gayle Ferraro, "To Catch a Dollar" covers the birth of Grameen America and follows the inspiring trials and triumphs of its first women borrowers. 



At first thought, we may consider microloans a thing of the developing world -- inconceivable in a country with a bank seemingly on every corner. However, in the United States, there are still an estimated 22 million people without access to formal financial services.

What can you do to help?

Of course, there are always people throughout the world in need of a microloan, and lending to them is a sustainable way to repeatedly make a difference without going broke yourself. But it is also equally important to spread the word. We have a few ideas to help you do both!

Host a social action viewing party:

  • Invite friends over to watch the film and discuss what you can do together to help alleviate poverty.

Host a neighborhood screening:
Spread the word about microfinance and "To Catch a Dollar" by hosting your own screening. Not only will the movie provide inspiration to its viewers, but you can also host a loan drive and continuously recycle the proceeds!
