Kiva Fellows 17th Class
Turkey
Kimberly Strathearn was born and raised in Simi Valley, CA. She credits her mother for igniting her love of travel and other cultures at a young age through family adventures abroad. She has been living and working for the past 13 years in Turkey. She spent those years working in the tourism and education sectors. Prior to moving to Turkey, she worked in the non-profit fields of refugee resettlement for 10 years and food banking for one year. She has been interested in Microfinance ever since reading The Price of a Dream: The Story of the Grameen Bank. It is through her Kiva Fellowship that, she aims to develop her skills and knowledge of the microfinance field in order to leverage her experience into a new career. She is eager to apply what she learns from her experience as a Kiva Fellow in order to analyze some of her own ideas regarding microfinance related to tourism, refugee micro loans, and youth entrepreneurial activities. She is thrilled to be working with MAYA as it becomes Kiva’s first MFI partner in Turkey.
