We are constantly inspired by the Kiva community–a community that includes more than 2.5 million lenders and borrowers around the globe. Together, we are bound by our vision of a more connected, compassionate world. In celebration of this vision at the heart of Kiva’s work, we’re telling the world what #WeBelieve this week. Tenants or tenets? Tenants are people who live in housing that you own. Tenets are principles of belief.

Excellent. Now please bring the map view back. Thank you.

Very serene, and very, very safe. Would condense into six tenets, then add two -- women's equality and GLBT equality.

I wish you would add as a tenet: We believe in offering loans at low interest. I've seen some extremely high rates on Kiva. How does that liberate poor people?

Tess arrives at Kiva after a two year backpacking excursion through Asia and the South Pacific, where she volunteered at monasteries, taught English, went diving in shipwrecks, was attacked by a band of robbing monkeys and made it out, not quite unscathed, but alive. While in Asia, she learned about the importance of community in rural areas and how small businesses help empower the people and preserve their culture. With a B.A. in Political Science and French from Fordham University in New York City, Tess has returned to her native city of San Francisco to pursue her passion in international development. In her free time she likes to hike, explore and maintain her blog about events around The City.
